Blast from the Past

10:16:00 AM

Yesterday on my way back to St. Petersburg, from Gainesville, I stopped by my grandparents' home in Brandon for a real blast from the past. Morgan was helping my dad out going through all of their things and getting rid of a lot of old useless stuff. My grandmother died about 10 years ago, when I was 12. After that my grandpa lived their by himself for about 5 years before he came to live with my parents here in St. Pete. It was a hard transition  and at the time he was starting to show early signs of Alzheimer's. At first, we just thought it was him "getting old", but as time went on, his memory got worse and worse. It was a tough time for all of us, especially my mom, in his more recent years. He passed away last Christmas Eve as we were in church singing "Silent Night." There was something peaceful about knowing the fact that he is now up in Heaven with my grandmother, the love of his life, with all of his memories back. I know they are both smiling down on us, watching, and no doubt doing a puzzle together.

Before I get into the fun that was going through all of the old things of my grandparents, lets talk about lunch. Speaking of blast from the past, here is a twist on a classic. Peanut butter and jelly. :)

It was fresh ground peanut butter with organic strawberry jam on a cinnamon raisin English muffin...YUM!

Ingredients:
1 Tablespoon of peanut butter
1 Tablespoon of jam
1 English muffin

Quick, easy and delicious! A perfect on the go lunch that actually fills you up.

She used to always have this Santa Clause out at Christmas, oh how I miss the good ol' days

The last thing that I found that was one of my absolute favorites, an old vintage leather and fur coat. I decided to take this as a keepsake, just needs to be cleaned. It smells so much like my grandma, it is scary. Smoke and musk. Ha, not a great smell to be honest, but it was how it was back then, everyone smoked. I don't know if musk is the correct word to use to describe it, but it just smells like grandmothers house.

Loved grandmas old coat!
It was really sad to look at everything now as an adult, going through all of the fun memories that were made there as a child. But that home will always hold a special place in my heart and in my memories, for all of the times that were spent there growing up. Nose to the edge of the counter watching grandma cook. Her famous southern breakfasts that she made for us every time we came to visit. Playing Crockett in the front yard. Singing Christmas carols to all of the neighbors with my cousins. It was a magical place, but as life goes, it was time to say goodbye.
