Bridesmaid dress Inspiration

I have been struggling to decide on what kind of dress to choose for the bridesmaids. Not only do I want them to look smashing and to feel great in their dresses, but I want to do it without having them break the bank. It is so hard to ask someone to buy a dress for $200 that they may only wear one time. I know that it is a special occasion, but seriously it is just so much to ask from someone. What is your opinion? Did you pay for your girls' dresses or were they more than happy to pick up the tab? How much were your bridesmaid dresses? Do you think it is horrible to ask someone to buy a $200 dress?

Here is some inspiration I have thrown together as some possible ideas for my girls. But there is one dress, my mom and I found yesterday while puttsing around at Dillards that was absolutely beautiful. Of course I didn't get any pictures and I can't find it by the style number online, so I will just have to go back and take another peak with some of the girls and get their opinions. But I will tell you, it was STUNNING!

The problem with going to a department store verses a bridal boutique is of course, not every dress can be made in a different color. At a department store, what you see is what you get. I am trying to keep our options open, but I have spoken to a few people in the industry who have warned me to not wait too long for the girls to order their dresses. I was told April was my deadline for our October wedding, so for future refrence to all you brides-to-be out there looking for bridesmaid dresses, start looking soon and make sure to have everyone order their dresses approximately 5-6 months before the wedding. This will give you ample time to get the dress in and of course if any tailoring needs to be done you will have plenty of time for that as well.

  1. I am having a hard time finding a bridesmaid dress for my friends wedding. She pretty much said any dress that is Navy Blue...we went to a bridal store and they were way pricey and of course we would need alterations. I am still looking online for a is so hard to find one! Good Luck!

  2. Ms. E - I found a little luck at bridal stores, but like you said everything is super pricey. There are some good options online, if you have time to make sure you can return it just in case it doesn't turn out as well as you'd hoped. My suggestion though is to try department stores, it is prom season right now so there are actually some beautiful gowns that are out there that won't have you breaking the bank. Good luck to you!
