God is so amazing! That is just how I want to start this. We have been having a rough week in our home with little, to no sleep and lots and lots of allergy yuck causing coughs and runny noses and just a whole bunch of other wonderful things. And I will tell you, yesterday I was feeling stretched thin and just all around like a bad mama with no compassion left for my child who had been coughing for over an hour straight yesterday morning. I too have been fighting something and we were up at an ungodly hour (like 4AM) yesterday and I was just beyond drained.

My amazing husband was able to finally get my oldest to take a steamy shower (which calmed his cough) and immediately he felt better and was off to school. I worked the majority of yesterday afternoon into the late evening, came home and literally went to bed so fast I didn't even remember to wash my face. It was a long day.

But somehow God turned it all around. Both boys slept great last night and so I was actually able to get a full night's sleep. When I woke up this morning I felt refreshed and just filled up again ready to take on another day. My kids were no better this morning than any other day (I mean we still have a 1 and 3 year old) but for some reason I felt more compassionate, more loving and more patient in handling all the little things that yesterday just felt like they would break me.

Isn't it amazing what just one good night's sleep will do for you? I think as parent's we get so used to running on empty, but God will grace us with tiny moments of rest where He fills us up so we have the strength to carry on and be better parents and just humans. I am so so thankful for these moments and for the opportunity to reflect on a not so great day yesterday, so that I can make today a better one.

Here is a verse that I am clinging to lately that if you are tired and weary and feeling like you are just tapped out you might find this encouraging:

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."
Matthew 11:28
