Babymoon Part 2 :: St. Lucia

Our little getaway was nothing short of amazing! I am constantly in awe of God's creation and all of the natural beauty that the world holds. Little treasures I believe He gives to us as reminders of His power and His constant presence all around us.

We wanted to make sure we spent plenty of time just relaxing and resting, and let's face it, getting rest with 2, soon to be 3, kiddos doesn't happen too often. However, my husband and I are very much adventure people, so we set out to find at least a couple of fun, unique experiences while on the island. As much as I love just reading a book next to him on the beach, I actually feel more connected with him when we do things together making memories.

Our first stop took us to the magnificent Piton mountains. We decided that since it may be a once in a lifetime opportunity, we should climb to the top of the Gros Piton, the largest of the 2 peaks. A grueling 2 mile hike up and down. Little disclaimer, we did NOT realize how hard the hike was going to be until we were half way up the mountain, and we are no quitters! May have not been the smartest activity choice being pregnant, but it was totally worth it!! The views from the top were breathtakingly beautiful and when we looked back at how vast that mountain was, pretty incredible to know we climbed it.

After our hike, the group we went with ate lunch at this quaint little restaurant, The Still Beach House, down in the town of Soufriere right on the beach overlooking the mountain and took a refreshing dip in the ocean. It was the perfect ending to an amazing day.

We had so many amazing conversations about our lives and goals and where we see our family in the future. Things we just normally don't have the time or energy to even think about. It was definitely a breathe of fresh air to be able to talk to each other uninterrupted by little people and to-do lists and everyday tasks. Getting back to that place of intimacy that seems to get misplaced sometimes in the hustle and bustle of daily life. One of the main reasons we booked this trip was because it is all to often so easy to get lost in being "mom" and "dad" and forget a bit about being "husband" and "wife". Two very important titles that we don't ever want to lose!

Our last day of vacation we decided to travel down the coast again, literally 2 hours of serpentine roads up and down mountains. Not a good combination when pregnant. I got car sick. Twice. Which was a little embarrassing, but what are you gonna do. Our driver was sweet though, and his response, "she isn't the first and won't be the last."

We headed to the volcano on the island, which you can drive in to and enjoyed the sulfur springs and mud bath. A little smelly, but our skin felt like a baby's tush afterward. Definitely an experience worth your time if you ever visit the island. I would suggest doing what we did however and just hiring a driver and going by yourselves instead of in a large tour group. We had a much more relaxing experience I think because we weren't with a huge group. We followed that up by taking a refreshing plunge in the famous Toraille waterfall. Again, we did all of this in the same day with the same driver, so we got to experience the waterfall just us without a large group. It was pretty amazing!

Basically the only word I can come up with to sum up this trip is spectacular. St. Lucia is an absolutely breathtaking island and I would love to return some day to be able to experience more of what it has to offer.
