Holy Emotions

2:38:00 PM

Emotions. We all have them. Sometimes we let them get the better of us...at least I know I do. Having self-control over whatever emotion I am feeling and not letting it dominate who I am or how I perceive my situation is probably the hardest life lesson I am continuing to learn every day.

I have been doing this devotion the past few weeks and I have been really enjoying it. It is through the Bible Ap on my phone (if you don't have it, you need to get it...it's totally free and has so many resources). The study is called Holy Emotions, written by Carol McLeod and Just Joy Ministries. It walks you through 30 days of everyday situations and emotions that can arise and how we are called as children of God to respond.

The overall message I have been getting is to be joyful in ALL of life's circumstances. Even when things can be hard and out of our control, whether that it dealing with an illness or a difficult person (or child) the Lord has put in your life, we are called to be like Jesus. And what does that mean? We are called to love, to trust, to worship, to be joyful, to be strong...even if it feels like the world is crumbling all around us.

Obviously easier said than done, but when we have God as our partner in life anything is possible and it definitely makes going through tough situations so much easier. There is a peace that is beyond all understanding that He gives to us when we trust that He is good and that He is working good in our lives...even if whatever we are walking through isn't necessarily "good".

I wanted to share some of my favorite Bible verses that have come up in this study so far.

"Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls."
- Matthew 11:28-29

"Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer."
- Romans 12:12

"Rejoice in the Lord always...Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God."
- Philippians 4:4-6

"Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me."
- John 15:4

I hope that you will find some encouragement through this post and just know, whatever you are going through, you are not alone. The creator of the Universe wants to be your best friend and carry you through everything you will ever go through in life. If you will let Him.
